If you could change one thing about being a teenager what would it be?
|
I would want to change the supression on teenage voices. I've been shushed and restricted so much in my life. It's not that I have vulgar things to say, but there have been things I've wanted to talk about and it's been prohibited and restricted by teachers and my parents. I think teens should have be given stronger voice. Marissa
If I could change one thing about being a teen, it would be for society to realize that not all of us are lazy, dumb, druggies with attitude problems. And that not all of us go out every weekend to part and get F***ed up. And that most of us have fun responsibly. I would change the way society and media percieve us. We're not all 5'10 105 lbs. And we're happy with that, so why try to conform us into what you think we should be b/cuz we are who we are. We don't only care about our looks and ouselves, And don't give us a hard time if we like to have fun every once in awhile. That's our right. We are put under unlimited amount of stress and pressure with out the media trying to give us a hard time for something that 1 teenager did. We can't take responsibility for what other teens do. Just don't sterotype!! Amanda
I would change the loneliness. I think many teenagers lack close friends. I think this is due to the fact that many teens are a little fake and put on fronts, & therefore noone wants to get to close because they will let their true self shine through. I think that if teens would have guidance from knowledgable friends and if teens would have people to talk to and to open up to, and be more in touch with their feelings, then they would accomplish more and reach thier fullest potential! (oh by the way, I am a teenager too, I'm 16) Michelle
If you think about it, the adults are the ones who created such an illusional society. Who creates the teen magazines, teen shows, teen advertisements, models, clothes, movies.......things teenagers see everyday of their lives?? ADULTS. We teenagers see those things and we become pressured by what we see.... what we see on t.v. magazines, and movies are perfectionism, and we are the ones who end up putting pressure on ourselves to look better, to be better people-----just to be perfect as her/him. We are not born with teen angst, but the society instills those problems in us, and we literally become a threat to the world---or so what adults say. But we are their creation. We are what they advertised for us to be. And some teenagers turn out screwed up and depressed because they have unstable parents or no guardians whatsoever to guide their lives to the the right path. If you ask me, teenagers can become better people if the society doesn't teach them what kind of person they should be. If adults want us to behave better, then I guess they should play a big role with that change. Being a teenager is the most challenging, but it's also a very wonderful experience. If I could change one thing about being a teenager what would it be?? Hmmm.......I guess the way we seem to aspire to be the perfect babe or hottie. I wish we could all be just satisfied with what we are born with, and we should appreciate everyone around us--big or small. I wish that came naturally. MarianneD
WOW, thats a really hard question. THere's just so much I would change!*L* I think mostly the fakeness I always feel in high school. Everybody seems to be puting on a face man! I just want to be real. But I'm 17...and as a younger teenager I was always trying to be somethign I"m not. I think most people do for a long time, and it's a lonely way to live. Also I think I'd have ot change the negative way teenagers are seen in society. Oh and DEFINATLY the way they try to scare us out of sex and drugs--its just so STUPID Scarletta_Starshine
We would have a chance to live our lives like teenagers should, without having to become adults at such a young age. Lisa
I would change the fact that people, especially adults, always assume that teenagers are BAD! We're ok you know. Just because Im a TEENager, doesnt mean Im rude, and just because Im a TEENager, doesnt mean I cause trouble at every chance I get. Us teens are bad people. We have rights and feeling just like everyone else! Whats wrong with being 13? or 14? or 15? Just becuase Im a TEENager doesnt mean Im not human. Azrael367
I would change the fact that everyone groups us together as being lazy, drug addicted, rude, thoughtless and mean not to mention dreamless and directionless. I know that there are some of us out there but are just as many adults like that, who do you think we got it from? Uforeah
i think i would change how people automatically assume that we have no sense at all. the fact that we are not "old" enough to make a "good" decision. we learn from our mistakes. we may get humiliated in the proccess but that's how we learn. deal with it. §un§hine
I also agree with Alice. Adults look at teens like we have no idea how to think for ourselves. We are not allowed freedom to do much and it's always because "we are older and have more experiance." I want to know where their experiances came from. Being a teen and making mistakes. It's a process of growing up and it has to happen. Parents can tell us not to do something, but most will. We need to live and learn, just like our parents. If something doesn't work, we do think. We ultimatly know what is right and deep down, I believe, it will always prevail, if we are allowed to live. I hope this makes sense. I have so much to say, but I don't want to go on and on. Katie
I would change, basically, the entire process. It would be easier to deal with, not so full of changes, etc. Anyway, that answers very broad...the first thing I would change about being a teenager is the pressure society puts on us. In general. Casey
I would change the way Adults censor teens. Such as R movies, CD's, TV shows, And a whole load of other things. I mean come on, we've alreaddy seen the stuff, so why do they have to shelter it so much, I mean my parents even censor the news when it talks about people who are homosexual. If they censor everything for all the people under 18 the kids who are being born right now, will be utterly shocked about how life works when they turn 18. Laura
I think Alice sumed up what I was going to say. I would change the way older people look at teenagers =o) Jen-E
I would somehow (it's next to impossible) change the way adults look at teenagers. I am so afraid of growing up and looking down on people younger than me. Just the other day, my mom was discussing our moving situation, and she said, "Because we're older and wiser,Alice, you should trust us. We have more experience than you do." I completely disagree. Adults may have been here longer, so certainly we should look to them as role models, but because they have more wrinkles does not make them wise nor better than we are. I think that adults, by and large, have had a larger quantity of experiences than teenagers, but teenagers should not be belittled because our experiences differ. My mom had a drinking/smoking problem when she was my age. I have had an eating/suicide problem. She cannot relate. Therefore, I think that while we should listen to adults, they should listen to us. They do NOT know us because they were once 'teenagers as well.' Because humans are so unique and our problems are disimilar, we should not look down on anyone for their age but learn from others because we are ALL wise in our own ways. Alice 'N Wonder
