    Question of the Week
    April 20, 1999

On April 20, 1999 two students with guns and explosives opened fire and killed fellow students then commited suicide. The total death count including the gunmen was 15. What are your views on the Columbine High School shooting in suburban Denver?

I myself am not one of the popular type of people, well not when I was at school anyway. I guess you could call me a grunger or even slightly gothic. Im not backing up the killers or what they did, it was plain wrong but I do feel that some of the victims had what was comming for them, in another words you should not fuck about with people like that because were all the same none of us are special, were all the same, no matter what we look like or what we believe. If the killers did not get all the bad treatment at school, people making there life hell then maybe none of this would never of happend. The students that teased the killers and beated the killers every day at school made the killers snap and so in some ways they got what they diserved. Id like to make one last point about how rock music should not get blammed. A lot of people blammed Marilyn Manson for this whole thing, due to his lyrics. I personaly think this is stupid because I listen to Marilyn Manson every day and you dont see me killing every one in site. people wanted someone to blame so they thought they might as well blame him, why not they say. The only things to blame for the killings is your government, america itself, the parants of the killers, the killers and in some ways the kids who teased the killers in the first place. I'v said my piece, all id like to say now is God bless any victims of this tradegy, anyone who died from this and lastly anyone involved or close to all of this. let everything be ok and let nothing like this ever happen again. From Peter Pan, England

Sorry to be so blunt but it was a stupid thing to do,In my mine they were not the smartest people and I am truly sorry for the people who have to go through it and in my mind they shouldn't of had too.

I think they should have been more careful.

I think that it is sad that our country has come to this. We are resorting to violence when it comes to all obstacles and we have to stop it. I think it was a dumb, idiotic (and I could go on forever about this) thing for them to do. Being destructive and hateful isn't good, but I can understand why they felt like they didn't fit in. But what i think they should have realized is that everyone will at some point in there life, and you should not decide just to kill people for the heck of it.
    Anne, etc.

That was a stupid thing 4 them 2 do.

I think that people need to realize that this sort of thing can happen anywhere. It will happen regardless of what the teachers do, regardless of what video games they play, etc. It is not important to lay blame on who could have prevented this, who's fault it is,etc. The important thing is to think about how we can prevent this from happening again. How can we? That is a very good question that I don't think can be answered in a paragraph. I am very sorry for those who lost loved ones and I am praying for those who are injured. Let's pray this does not have a copy-cat killer within the next few weeks.

I think it's time for us to not only look at stricter gun control laws, but to look at society as well. Years of being tormented and called "outcasts" made those two boys feel so isolated that they joined groups like the Trenchcoat Mafia. We would rather blame the outcome of groups like this on Marilyn Manson and trenchcoats rather than take a good hard look at ourselves. A boy at my school recently hanged himself. According to his family, he had been tormented by classmates for years. His actions and the actions of the two boys in Colorado are unacceptable. But perhaps we can prevent future tragedies by looking at the whole picture. Furthermore, I live in Canada, and we have stricter gun laws than in the U.S. There have been multiple gun shootings in US schools, and very few in Canada. I heard one parent say that this wouldn't have happened if the gun laws weren't so strict. Another student said he wished he had his rifle so he could fire back. What does this say about your laws? Obviously, it is time for some major changes socially and legally.

This whole thing is so terrifying, you would think that when you go to school, that iyou are safe. but not any more! I don't know why this story is catching my eye so much, I mean there have been other school shootings, but this one really freaks me out! the other night I was watching the News,(the day it happened) and I started crying. there were two girls interviewed, and they were standing there waiting for another bus to arrive, one of the girls was looking for more of her friends, that were still in the school, but the other girl was looking for her older brother! he arrived on the next bus, and when he got there, and they schowed it on the news, I broke out in tears, because me and my brother are so close, and I couldn't imagine life with out him, or even having to wait hours to find out if he was even alive! I pray every night for the friends and family of the victims at Columbine High School, my school that I go to, is just like that school. there is "Play Boy Mafia" at my school, it is a group of I'd say 12-15 guys. and they are very racist, I just keep my distance from them and say NOTHING about them! it is so scary to know that something like this could happen to any one! my prayers are with the people at Columbine High School.

This whole tradegy has really opened my eyes. I have seen other shootings but it didn't really hit me until it hit close to home. I have now had a change of heart and know now not to criticise people who may be different or anything else like that. This tradegy has really saddened me and my heart goes out to everyone.

17-25 injuries, 15 deaths...that's they worst high school shooting I"ve ever evenHEARD of! And some of the details you didn't mention were so disgusting. Like this...yesteday was Hitlers birthday. Because the were racist kind neo-nazi's, their guessing these two were "commemerating" his birthday. First they killed athletes and people wearing jerseys and stuff, and then they shot minoritite.s This part really mad me sad too, there was this one random girl they didn't know. They put the gun in her face and said "Do you beleive in God?" She, crying, said yes..and they shot her. So so sick... I heard after the shooting they were having this meeting (they start those things fast don't they) where they were making suggestions aboutWhen holding a meeting about it and comming up with suggestions (they move fast don't they?) one person suggested uniforms. What the hell??!! Tha't so stupid! That doesn't have anythign to do with it!! I can't beleive some people are blaming it on that!! Good god are some perople ignorent! Anyway it really makes you wonder what the problem is, though. Obviously, meainly, two really sick people. That's where MOST of the blame has to go. But what about violence on TV? And how easy it is to get guns? I dunno, bu tit almost makes you feel like there should be a gun detector in every school. It's really sad; we just aren't safe from each other anymore.

I think this is terrible. I can't believe it happened... it so easily could have been at my school and my friends & I could be among the dead... this is terrible...
