What would you like to see schools/communities do to help alleviate the violence that has been happening in schools and with young people?

nothing. it's not the school's or the community that need to get active. it's up to the media to stop dehumanizing and glorifing violence and guns. missmu
when are we going to accept responsibility for our problems??? it is a sad testament to our society that we must always require someone else to address the problems...these problems(violence, etc.)are problems that need to be addressed on the FAMILY level..it's our(parents) problem to solve martino71
They need to get to the bottom of the problem and ask around don't just ask the people involed because you will wind up with onlt two diffrent stories. Asking around usually helps and talhing agout the problem works too. Sara
First, I think schools have to go to the root of the problem. Too often we address the symptoms of the problem... Tighter security... Punishment for possesion of weapons... But thats not the real problem. The problem is that kids think they can deal with their anger with these weapons. We have given them the message that if they are unhappy, or upset, or have a problem, the way to deal with it is to shoot someone, or deal with them in another violent way. So, I think in order to solve the problem of violence, we have to teach our children to deal with anger, and unhappiness in an appropiriate way. Also, we have to stop abusive parents, and situations that open kids up to abusive emotions like anger, unhappiness and abondonment. There are a lot of things we need to look at again in order to reacess violence in our schools. But the first thing we need to do is understand that it is something that has been built up and bred into our society and unless we take those steps to reach it at the beginning, at the roots, the problem will only grow. At my school, we have a program called Connections. We just started it this year and I think it is a great way for kids to get to know one another. We met once every Wednesday for a half an hour. There are 12 students to each faculty member, incuding the principle. We just talk and participate in activities that help us understand each other better. I think this will in turn help prevent violence. I think any school could beneifit from this. Emily
