THEY HATE MY WHITE BF
by Mariata, 16, female

December 26, 2000

Dear Diary,

My family hates my boyfriend, who is white. On Christmas, I brought my bf,Mike, to our family party. When I introduced him to the members of my family, they seemed all nice about it, but when I asked everyone what they thought, they'd be like, "Why are you dating someone who's not like you..you can do so much better." or "Why him? why not someone Filipino like you?" stuff like that. I was so #####ed off. My parents DEFINITELY don't like him, because they talk crap about him and don't let me go out with him, unless there's PARENTAL SUPERVISION...OKAY I only see him in school and at my house when my parents are home. I don't care what they think, but it makes me so damn uncomfortable when it comes to seeing him. My parents don't talk to him & hardly look at him. My brother makes fun of him cuz he's a jock (he hates preppy jocks). My sister is okay with it(she thinks he's nice and cute)and my other sister says that I should stay in my race. It seems like I'm dating a fool....BUT HE'S NOT! Everyone is just making everything hard for me. It seems like they think it's wrong to inter-race. Too bad if they think an Asian & a white looks weird, but I really like this guy. They shouldn't spoil it for me. I can't help dating a white. 80% of my school is white and the Asians in my school are kinda nerdy (not to be mean, but it's quite obvious). Plus, I'm a cheerleader and I'm always at Mike's Football/Basketball games -n- we always see each other everywhere! All of my friends(white, asian) think we're such a good couple. Mike is a great guy and the nicest guy I know. My cousins say I'm too white-washed. Now I don't feel like seeing him anymore, because I feel awkward from those negative thoughts that everyone told me about inter-racing. Why is everyone making it such a big deal?

i cnat believe someone would tell you to go below b/c of who yo choose to date. if you like/love mike, dont ruin things because ppl are ignorant.i almost did.
Brittney

Don't let anyone tell you interracial relationships are wrong.they aren't. they are as right a smae race relationships.
Brittney

I see no wrong with it , as long as noone is being abused , mistreated or used and this would stand for all other combination of couples allso .

i'm a northern black & my bf's a southern white. we've been dating for a year and my friends still talk like i'll "snap out of it". i know how you feel, but stick by interracing ... every human being's got something to them, but only broad-minded people can see it.
Korey

you must be ashamed of your race. White boys have no brains, class and there a bunch of cowardly pigs.

YOU ARE A DISGRACE TO THE ASIAN RACE! BURN IN HELL YOU TRADER!
Hoey Hamel

i should not matter, i myself also date only white guys. They are so much more respectful, swet, nice and not to mention very hot and they have beautiful eyes.
Haneefah

What do you expect, your parents are filipino
Elmer

I seriously think its ok for people to inter racially date. If they love each other color has nothing to do with it. Color has nothing to do with personality and inter racial dating is TOTALLY ok! I think if u like mike then u keep going out with him...u sound like u guys realy like each other good luck gurl!
Nikki

I think that your parents should stop be racial about you dating mike. i mean its your life. they need to know that you can date anyone you like. its not like they are dating him.

Race has always been a problem in the united states. I'm White but I say race should not matter. Where are they from? Were they born in the Philipines or are they the american generation? That could have a lot to do with it.
Sam

I dont think racism is a good thing, but maybe your parents are just protecting you, and in the bible it says that you shouldnt mix with other races. :) But I do agree with you totally!
Amy

I think ppl should be able to date ANYONE they what no matter what race i date ppl of different races i dont see the problem....
Julian

I agree with quezz!

Love is love hun! I'm mestiza - which is FILIPINO (KATE) and half American. I know its so hard for you, but you have to teach them to accept it. If I'm going to marry a pink guy with spots, Go

quezz

I think that it is a bunch of crap that they don't like him. It does not matter what race you are, as long as you love each other. Good Luck with him!!!!!!!

Hey... lol.. If your really PHILIPINO maybe you could spell it right... God... lol..
kate

i can relate entirely; they're making a big deal because it's not what they want for you. but it's your life to live, so you've got to make your own judgements. if you like him, and

Sit down over a bowl of pansit and tell your family it could be a lot worse - you could be dating a felon!
Jennifer

Tell ur family how u feel. Maybe tehy are acting this way b/c its new to them. Remember, when they were young it was pratically illegal to marry someone not ur own race. But you should see him; Race i
