Discrimination
Discrimination is, unfortunately, alive and well in our society. Publicly, we frown on discrimination. Laws prohibit businesses and organizations from discriminating, "on the basis of age, religion, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, culture, heritage, gender, socioeconomic status." Lists such as these demonstrate that human beings find any number of reasons to discriminate. But does this tendency of ours have to persist? It is apparent that in order to break down the barriers between groups of people, individuals must take it upon themselves to value the diversity of cultures and individuals, rather than discriminate on the basis of these differences.
